Phish tour

The Hampton run of phish tour has been a blast. I’ve met many friends that have made me feel good about being here.  my second love has always been music and it feels great to be here and share in the groove.  Tonight will wrap up the run and I have my dancing shoes on.  I predict tonight will be the fire.  As much fun as I’m having I’m looking forward to returning home to west by God virginia.  I take a taxi to and from the shows to be safe and I like hanging out in the lot for a few hours before the gates open.  My cabbie is picking me up at 3 today.  Going to shows alone is different but still enjoyable.   See you guys when I return.

Widespread Panic

Currently in Louisville, KY to watch Widesoread Panic do their thing.  The house is getting packed and the odor of patchouli and marijuana is in the air.  I will also be here tomorrow night rockin out.  My seat is pretty good and will be even better tomorrow.  I am ready for a solid 3 hour show of southern rock and jamming.  Will update tomorrow!

Django Unchained

Tonight I got to watch Django Unchained with the wife.  From the moment the opening credits hit I knew it would be a winner.  Tarentino continues where he left off with Death Proof,  paying homage to the Renaissance of film, the grindhouse movie.  Django Unchained is about a black slave that is freed by a german bounty hunter only to become a bounty hunter himself.  Django also is on a mission to find and free his wife (who is also a slave )owned by Leonardo Dicaprio.  This movie was very fun and a great tribute to spaghetti westerns and blaxploitation.  I am looking forward to the bluray release.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

I finally got to go to the theater last night and check out Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.  I have been looking forward to this movie very much since the teaser trailer released a couple of months ago.  It is not revolutionary or comperable to the original movie by any means, but I did enjoy myself.  I liked the fact that this movie took place right after the end of the original movie and paid tribute to it with the intro.  I liked that Bill Moseley was cast to play the head of the family, Drayton Sawyer, due to Jim Siedow’s death.  I also appreciated the Gunnar Hansen cameo.  The critic reviews have been stellar, but I went into the movie with an open mind.  I thought that the plot was not the deepest I’ve ever seen, but it was a fun ride.  The 3D effects looked pretty good, and with the exceotion of Trey Songs, the actors did a decent job.  I enjoyed the twist ending and am hopeful for a sequel due to the movie being left open for one.  If you get a chance, check out this movie in the theater.  Lets be honest, it was a lot better than Texas Chainsaw The Next Generation.

Widespread Panic – New Years Eve

In addition to really bad horror movies, I enjoy going to “jam band” concerts.  I’ve done it for years and years, and no other kind of concert compares.  I know that  I will get a different experience and  different set list everytime I go.  The lot scene is always better at a jam band show, and there are really good people there.  This New Years Eve I will be attending the Widespread Panic show in Charlotte, NC.

Last year I attended this show  and it was a solid 5 hours of southern rock and seamless jams.  I am looking forward to a break from work for a few days to take a road trip.  I always enjoy the adventure.  I like stumbling upon weird roadside attractions… You never know what you’re going to find until you pack up the car and adventure.

When I return, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3-D will be in the theaters.  I am definitely going to check out this film and will offer my review of it here on my blog.  I have high hopes for it, maybe too high.  We will see if the saw is the law.

Until next time…

Evil Dead The Musical

Last night I took my wife to see the Kanawha Players production of “Evil Dead The Musical in Charleston, WV.  I wasn’t expecting a giant Broadway production… just a fun, campy local musical with a little bit of arterial spray… and that is what they delivered.  Given the chance id love to see a big budget Broadway production of this show.  I bought some raffle tickets for my wife and of course she was victorious and walked away with DVD copies of army of darkness and my name is Bruce.  Last night was the final performance.  Hope you checked it out while it was in town.  Until next time!

House at the End of the Street

The other night I went to the theater to watch a movie.  I have seen most of the current movies that interested me, so I decided to give house at the end of the street a shot.  This movie is about a mom and daughter that move into a new neighborhood.  The house next door has a shady past though… a double murder.  The killer was never found and was believed to still be living in the woods nearby.  I was pleasantly surprised by this movie.  It looked run of the mill and corny but I became very interested in it.  There were a couple of twists that were unexpected and added a lot to the film.  This isn’t the best horror movie I’ve ever seen by any means, but I am not sorry I watched it.  If you’re looking for something to do for a couple hours, I suggest checking out this film.  Good to see Hollywood making a horror/thriller that isn’t a remake or completely mindless.  Until next time.
